Megwa, 18, who has also signed a contract extension at Easter Road that ties him to the Hibees until the summer of 2025, can play at both right back and centre back.
After arriving in Edinburgh in 2021, he has flourished for Hibs' under-18 side, winning the CAS (Club Academy Scotland) Under-18 Elite Youth League title in his first season with the club.
Megwa has continued to shine for the Leith outfit at under-19 level in Europe, helping them to a UEFA Youth League play-off tie with German giants, Borussia Dortmund, which they narrowly lost 2-1 after previously defeating Molde, of Norway, and French side Nantes.
Megwa has also been a feature for Hibs in the cinch Reserve League, and has earned a call-up by first team manager, Lee Johnson, on a number of occasions this season to be part of his squad.
Speaking to his club's website, Steve Kean, Hibernian's academy director, said: "Kanayo has been one of the standout performers for us this season and is thoroughly deserving of his new deal.
"He has really developed since he joined the Club and has shown he is comfortable playing in several different positions.
"In the short-term, his loan move to Kelty Hearts will give him a good opportunity to experience regular senior football at a high level, which will put him in good stead for fighting for a place in the Hibs first team squad next season."
