JOHN POTTER says he is "delighted" with new boy Kanayo Megwa after an impressive debut at New Central Park.

The 18-year-old was signed on loan from Hibernian last week and made his first appearance for Kelty Hearts against FC Edinburgh on Saturday.

The teenager, who has also signed a contract extension at Easter Road that keeps him there until the summer of 2025, can play at both right back and centre back.

Speaking after the weekend's defeat, which saw Kelty drop to eighth place in the table, Potter said: "He was very good in all aspects of his game, he was energetic in one on ones and we are delighted to have him, hopefully he adds to what we've got.

"Jack Milne as well, two boys who have a really good attitude and are going about their business well."

Having had his eye on the youngster for a few weeks before securing the deal, Potter added that he was "delighted" with his addition to the team.

He said: "I knew him when I was at Hibs, he'd just joined and he's one that we had spoke about for a little while but Hibs were playing in the European stage for the under 18s and they wanted to keep him for that.

"The opportunity came and we tried hard to get him for a few weeks, delighted to get him and hopefully he can add to our season."

After arriving in Edinburgh in 2021, the London-born player has flourished for Hibs' under-18 side, winning the CAS (Club Academy Scotland) Under-18 Elite Youth League title in his first season with the club.

Megwa has continued to shine for the Leith outfit at under-19 level in Europe, helping them to a UEFA Youth League play-off tie with German giants, Borussia Dortmund, which they narrowly lost 2-1 after previously defeating Molde, of Norway, and French side Nantes.

Megwa has also been a feature for Hibs in the cinch Reserve League, and has earned a call-up by first team manager, Lee Johnson, on a number of occasions this season to be part of his squad.

"This is different, this is first team football, this will be miles different for him," Potter said.

"He handled it really well today, I thought he was good in the game, in both sides of the game, he was energetic and I am delighted with his debut.

"It's totally different from playing Borussia Dortmund under 19s at Hibs and playing out here in proper men's football.

"It will be great for his learning curve and hopefully good for us."

Potter's other recent loan signing, Arron Darge, wasn't on he team sheet on Saturday but could be expected to make an appearance next week when the team face Airdrieonians.

Darge, 19, is a product of the Hearts youth system, and is captain of the Tynecastle side's B side, who are 13th in the Lowland League.

He has made 21 appearances for them this season, and can operate in the centre of defence, or in a holding midfield role.

"He has a little niggle that we're just getting over at Hearts, he'll be training with them on Monday and available for us to train from Tuesday so hopefully available for us to play next week," Potter explained.
