A DUNFERMLINE legend is moving away tomorrow – and it seems he's leaving a heartbroken community behind.

Spartacus the Tesco Cat has been a friendly face in the supermarket's foyer for many years now, but after a successful career at the Duloch branch, he is moving away with his owners.

Much to the disappointment of fans, customers and staff alike, his last day at the store will be tomorrow (Friday, March 17).

There's been a huge reaction since the Press reported the news of his impending departure earlier this week, with many people adding their comments and best wishes to Spartacus on our Facebook page.

Services Manager at the Tesco Duloch Park, Lynne Louden, told the Press: "All the customers just love him, they'll come in and say 'oh I've come from such and such just to see Spartacus', and so many customers have bought him blankets and beds and treats.

"He's been such a big part of Tesco, everybody is so gutted that he's leaving. They just absolutely love seeing him when they come in, the bairns come in, elderly folk come in, just to see him, and it's just not going to be the same without him."

A little cat with a big personality, you could often find him roaming the aisles and getting into mischief.

She said: "When you bend down and see him in the towels and you say 'excuse me!', he just goes back to his bit because he knows he's done wrong! I've been in the wines and spirits department and you'll get a customer coming down saying 'there's a cat up there' and you'll know he's in that part of the store.

"Everything he does is just hilarious, he just has this funny wee way about him."

All of the staff will miss finding him sleeping in places he shouldn't, but Chris Brown, a team member in the store, will miss going down and checking on him, playing with him and making sure he's okay.

To commemorate the friendly feline who has been such a big part of their team, Lynne will be making a commemorative plaque for Spartacus, so everyone who comes to visit knows he has moved away and is doing well.

Lynne and the rest of her colleagues are also going to be putting together a goodbye goody bag for him, complete with blankets, tasty treats – and even a Tesco name badge for their top employee!

"We are going to miss him," she added. "He's a big part of Tesco, it's a shame."

His departure from his comfy window seat was originally announced on his Facebook fan account, Spartacus the Tesco Cat, which has 5.8k followers.

The post announcing his move, which has since been shared hundreds of times and has thousands of likes, said: "A sad announcement to make but I think the community would all like to know that Spartacus is moving away with his owners to a new house far away from Tesco. He'll be leaving with his family on Friday so please say your goodbyes when you see him this week.

"His owner will keep us posted on how he's getting on and I'll share it here when I can. I wonder if he'll find another shop to hang out in his new neighbourhood?

"Bye Spartacus, it's been fun and we'll miss you so much."
