A DALGETY BAY schoolgirl has found a love for ancient Gods, myths, and monsters after starring in a new children's book.

Elena Wright, who attends Donibristle Primary, has featured in a latest release by her Letham Rise neighbour, John Richardson, who writes informative historical novels for young readers.

Throughout his newly launched second book, Ancient Greece for Children, Elena appears to ask questions about the events described.

The eight-year-old's dad, Murray Wright, told the Press she had been "very excited" and had already handed out a copy to her school friend.

When asked what her favourite part about the book was, she said: "I liked the bit about Mount Olympus because it's not just about the mountain, but about the Gods like Athena.

"My favourite part is that he spelled my name right, barely anybody does!

"I hope the next one is about Victorians and ghosts!"

Murray said the youngster gets her love for anything "spooky" from her mum, Donna, and that John had asked if the family would be happy to get involved with his book after they exchanged Christmas cards.

John's previous tale focused on Roman Britain and followed the same structure, with questions put to readers at the end of each section.

He said: "I've always had an interest in ancient history, I've done a book on Roman Britain for children and I am hoping to do a trilogy.

"I think if you can encourage questions it broadens their education.

"If I had my way I'd like to see all school children at an early age given the opportunity to learn Latin."

He continued: "You can't cover the whole of history but you can point out salient points that touch on different aspects and an introduction to ancient Greece.

"It leads children from the beginnings and through every day life and the difference between Sparta and Athens.

"It's a broad brief of ancient history, what civilisation was like, and what it was like to be a child in those days."
