FANS of the beloved Tesco Cat, Spartacus, are voting on a tribute to remember him by after he moved away.

The Dunfermline 'legend' relocated with his family last Friday, March 17, leaving Tesco shoppers and staff missing their favourite moggy.

His owner shared images with his fan account of the massive amounts of gifts he received on his last day in the store along with an update.

They wrote: "I honestly do not know where to start! We are well and truly overwhelmed with all the well wishes and love people have been sharing over Facebook for our gorgeous boy! He really is one lucky cat.

"I can’t go far without someone asking me about him, he really has captured so many hearts and that shows through all the very kind gifts, cards, poems, toys, blankets and even a new cosy bed! You are all so kind and we are blown away with everyone’s generosity.

"I’m not going to lie, there was a feeling of guilt as I picked him up tonight, I know he has chosen to make Tesco his home over the last few years… maybe as many as six!! It just wouldn’t be right leaving him behind."

The message went on to thank the staff at Tesco who looked after the much-loved family pet.

It continued: "For now, Sparty has had a good roam around his new home, he’s had a feed and is now curled up on the sofa doing what he does best!

"We promise to keep you up to date on how he is, no doubt there will be another Sparty adventure soon! He’s a rescue cat after all, he has form for going wandering, so let’s hope he takes retirement in his stride and takes the quieter approach to life with his family."

Spartacus, who has now settled down in his new home, has had a lasting impact on the community, and those who love him are keen to commemorate his time in the city.

Five options are being explored on the Spartacus the Tesco Cat page. People can choose to vote for a statue of the feline, a plaque, a portrait, a donation crate in his name for a local cat charity, or a donation crate with a statue too.

While traditional statues prove to be expensive, with quotes for £6,000 mentioned throughout the voting process, a more affordable option of a wooden carving is being explored.

So far, the majority vote goes to the donation crate and statue combo, with 44 per cent of voters choosing that option.

Voting is set to end at 10am this morning (Wednesday) – so if you want to vote you'll have to be quick.
