A SEARCH for volunteers to plant, look after and stand up for Fife's trees and hedgerows has been launched.

The region has become the second in Scotland to set up a Tree Warden scheme which is being funded by Fife Council and the Community Woodlands Association.

The national initiative is run by the Tree Council and supports local groups across the UK.

Rebecca Logsdon, Fife’s Community Tree Planting Officer based at the Fife Coast & Countryside Trust, said: "If you have a love of trees and a few hours to spare, we’d love to hear from you.

"As a Tree Warden, you’re not simply an extra pair of hands: you’re an ambassador helping safeguard Fife’s trees, woodlands and greenspaces, helping to tackle the climate and nature crisis. Anyone can be a Tree Warden, no prior training or experience in tree management is needed."

Volunteers should be able to devote between 12 and 24 hours a year, or around 1-2 hours per month, to exploring and carrying out activities such as surveying trees and hedgerows and supporting tree planting.

Anyone who wishes to get involved should have a willingness to learn and be happy to work outside, sometimes in remote places.

Support and training will be available for Tree Wardens.
