A FUNDRAISER finished on a high note at the weekend with over £2,000 raised for charity.

The latest Dunfermline Soul Night took place in the Glen Pavilion on Saturday night with proceeds going to the Aberlour Children's Charity.

The event, organised by Ian Parker, has been running for 30 years.

Ian organises two soul nights a year and discovered recently that all his efforts over the years had resulted in more than £160,000 being raised for various Fife charities.

"Another sell out crowd of 300 enjoyed a great night of Soul music and raised a wonderful total of £2106 for Aberlour Children's Charity," he said.

"It is always a sell out. I have a Facebook page and have about 90 people on it who are from the same age group – although some are younger – who come along.

"As always the aim is to provide soul music to enjoy and dance to and hopefully this will continue in the coming years."

The club started in 1975 and was first held in the Northern Roadhouse, then the Kinema Ballroom before moving to the Glen Pavilion.

Several "Soul in the Park" nights have also taken place at East End Park to raise funds for the Pars and for the Mary Leishman Foundation.

The next Soul Night is already planned for the Glen Pavilion and will take place on October 14.
