Firefighters have been tackling a large fire on Preston Island in Torry Bay this evening. (Thursday, March 23).
The blaze in a field on the island, situated to the south of Low Valleyfield, was reported around 7pm.
Crews from Dunfermline were called out to deal with the incident.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We received a report of a field on fire at Preston Island, Valleyfield, at 7.09pm. We sent one appliance from Dunfermline. The crew requested back-up and a second appliance was sent from Dunfermline."
The fire was quickly brought under control, although a fire appliance remained on scene afterwards.
Preston Island is a former artificial island in the Firth of Forth, which was once used for salt production. However, it's no longer an island following a land reclamation project using ash slurry from Longannet power station.
