READERS have responded to our call for help in supporting the Dunfermline Foodbank.

With the cost of living crisis affecting us all, we asked readers to dig deep and support their local foodbank by filling our free donation bags with essential, non-perishable food items, toiletries and household cleaning products.

Even though everyone is struggling at the moment, our readers have gone the extra mile. Donation bags filled with tinned goods, long life milk, deodorant, shampoo and washing powder have now started to fill up the shelves of our foodbanks.

John Thompson, the administrator for Dunfermline Foodbank, told the Press: "Some bags arrived at our Dunfermline branch on Friday and down at our warehouse as well, so, donations are already arriving and we're very grateful for them."

While donations are coming in, the Foodbank needs more support. The Press are still encouraging our readers to please continue to donate, if they can.

Sandra Beveridge, Dunfermline Foodbank project manager, said: "Although the donations in December were absolutely brilliant, we're already starting to run low on some stock. It just happens, it's the winter months and you think you have loads until it comes to actually feeding everybody.

"I had a management meeting last night and I was talking about stock and that's what everyone was saying, that they can't believe how quickly our stock supplies have gone down. But when I'm looking at figures I can see why because the amount of clients coming to the foodbank has risen considerably."

For those who can donate to our appeal, which is kindly sponsored by Stagecoach, the Foodbank are always looking for tinned foods including meat, fish, potatoes, vegetables, long life milk, coffee and tea, sugar, and toiletries. They are also in need of Pot Noodles, Cuppa Soups and Mug Shots, as they are ideal for clients who cannot afford or access cooking facilities.

Dunfermline Press:

Those looking to donate can drop their goods off at the permanent collection points in all local Tesco and Asda stores, or you can drop donations off at the Warehouse at Unit 1C, Pitreavie Business Park, Dunfermline, KY11 8UN on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday, between 4pm and 6pm.

Thank you so much for your continued support and generosity.
