A GROUP of former Soroptimists have knitted Easter treats for the Foodbank.

The women knitted 12 little creme egg chick holders and put together 13 little felt chick bags filled with mini eggs for the Dunfermline Foodbank to "take the pressure off of parents who can't go out and buy Easter eggs" this year.

Sandra McMurtrie, from Limekilns, is one of the members of this group.

She told the Press: "There's a small group of us and we do things for Women's Aid and the Foodbank anyway, so we just decided amongst us that we would do the chickens for Easter because it's something a bit different that the children will enjoy.

Dunfermline Press:

"We all do different things, there's eight of us and some knitted chicks, some crocheted chicks, some made the bags and others embroidered the face. We sit and do it as a group and everybody does their own wee bit, or what they want to do, we sit and we talk and have a coffee while we do something practical and useful."

They wanted to support the foodbank and spread a little joy during the holidays.

Sandra continued: "There's a need, there's people out there that need food and toiletry items, but the chickens were done with the eggs because everybody gets the basics, what they need, like the cheesy pasta and the tins, but it's nice to remember that people deserve something a bit different, a bit nicer, at any time. It doesn't just have to be the basics.

"We just thought it would be quite nice for any kids so that come Easter time, they get something."

The group also made rabbits for Fife Women's Aid and they regularly donate to both of these charities.

Sandra added: "It's just to put a smile on faces, take the pressure off parents who can't go out and buy Easter eggs and, as a kid, you like getting something like that, so it's just a feel good thing. We're just trying to make people happy."
