JASON THOMSON hailed Kelty Hearts' draw at Falkirk and believes that they can "take comfort" from their performance.

The 35-year-old, only making his second appearance of the calendar year because of injury, played in central defence alongside Tam O'Ware, and helped John Potter's side keep a clean sheet and earn a point.

It was their first shut-out since their last victory - at home to Queen of the South last month - and it ensured that Kelty will be playing in League One next season, with Clyde and Peterhead, the bottom two clubs, now unable to catch them.

"It's been a bit of a tough spell for the club the last maybe four or five weeks, not picking up results," Thomson observed.

"Sometimes I think performances have been there - albeit, you take Airdrie (a 6-1 loss on March 11) out of that - but I've watched a lot from the side, and there's games where we've been unlucky, or games that we could've nicked. I think last week (a 2-1 defeat at home to Montrose)was the exact same; we were 1-0 up with 10 minutes to go.

"To come away from home to Falkirk, who are going really well, are a good football team, in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup, get a clean sheet and, on another night, we might've nicked a wee goal as well, I think we can take comfort from that.

"It doesn't stop there. We've got another big game away to Dunfermline, so they're not two easy games; Falkirk away and Dunfermline away.

"When you come to places like this, Falkirk can dominate possession, where the home team are going to have a lot of possession, but I think we limited them to minimal chances.

"We had a couple of breaks in the first half, and same in the second half. Maybe a bit of different decisions, or that final pass, we might've nicked a goal.

"I think in the end we were well worthy of our point. Falkirk are obviously pushing for promotion, and have got play-offs and stuff, so to come away here and get a draw is great."

Manager Potter was pleased to see an organised, disciplined defensive performance, particularly given their previous away match ended in a 6-1 loss at Airdrieonians.

"We've actually given away a few goals over the last wee period and, in the main, we've done ok this season defensively," he said.

"We had to shore up a little bit against a top team, with good players. It's really difficult, but we managed to restrict them. There were a lot of crosses and balls in the box, but they'll get that, because they're good, and we managed to defend the box well."
