THE Work of a group working to keep people safe on West Fife's coastline has been applauded by a Fife MSP.

Roz McCall, who represents Mid Scotland and Fife, visited Coastwatch West Fife at their Silver Sands beach base in Aberdour.

The organisation watches the coast and informs the relevant authorities of any issues and also works to support the local community.

The volunteer group are looking to build a small office to enable them to perform their tasks better and ensure they have the room they need all year round.

Ms McCall has supported the group in gaining funding and hopes they will keep delivering the vital service to West Fife communities.

“Coastwatch West Fife is an amazing group doing a lot for coastal communities in West Fife, and they are looking to do more soon," she said. “The group deserves more support and has done a lot for the local community. Their work offering First Aid and CPR skills to the local community is amazing.

“Our coastlines are an important asset and help attract tourists and businesses. However, they are also a place for leisure for many in Fife.

“It is important we support organisations like Coastwatch West Fife and ensure our coast is as safe as possible for tourists and locals alike.”

A spokesperson for Coastwatch West Fife said their group has gone from strength to strength.

“We are an organisation looking to set up our own coastal observation station at Silver Sands Beach in Aberdour. This will allow us to undertake observational duties, store our equipment safely, and perform our duties more effectively," they said.

"We have recently just fundraised £450 and have been offering accredited first aid and CPR skills to the local community. We have various operational equipment which allows us to track and communicate with all sea users, perform first aid, and perform CPR if needed.

“We also assist with safety equipment inspections across the Silver Sand beach and Dalgety Bay Coastline, such as checking the life rings/ropes.

“As a group, we will be organising volunteering opportunities that young people can use towards their Duke of Edinburgh award.
