JOHN POTTER believes old club Dunfermline will be "deserved winners" of League One.

The Kelty Hearts boss, whose team are assured of their place in the division for next season, led his team to a scoreless draw at KDM Group East End Park on April 1, which they followed up by sharing the same scoreline at home to Clyde on Saturday.

Their first-ever point away to the Pars was their second stalemate against the league leaders this season, with the other coming on home turf in August.

Potter, who played for Athletic during his career, and went on to coach and manage the club, pointed to the defensive record of James McPake's side as the reason why, he believes, they will seal the championship.

Dunfermline have conceded just 19 goals in 32 league games, and Montrose, October, still the only team to have beaten them in the division.

Their win at Peterhead last night keeps them 11 points clear of nearest challengers Falkirk, and a win over Queen of the South will guarantee them the title.

If the Bairns fail to be Airdrieonians, that would also secure the championship and, speaking after his team's draw at East End, Potter said: "I think the game against Falkirk here (a 2-0 win last month) will win them the league but, over the piece, to only lose one game is incredible really.

"They get a lot of clean sheets in games. They defend really, really well and, when you've got strikers that they you see coming off the bench, and you got strikers in this league, and midfielders, that can come off and score goals, they back themselves to keep a clean sheet, and they'll always create chances and score goals.

"They'll win the league and they're deserved winners of the league, in my opinion. When you get the results that they have, they deserve to win the league."
