AARON COMRIE admits that being able to win the title on Saturday is something for the Pars players to relish.

But the full back insists that they were not aware of how rivals Falkirk were faring on Tuesday night whilst they were playing to potentially wrap up League One at Peterhead.

Dunfermline went into their rearranged game with the Blue Toon knowing that a victory, combined with the second-top Bairns failing to do likewise at Montrose, would mean they could not be caught in top spot.

Whilst Comrie and his Pars pals maintained their side of the bargain, and extended their unbeaten league run to 20 league games, their fierce rivals collected three points at Links Park, ensuring that the gap between the pair remains 11 points.

A win over Queen of the South at home this weekend, irrespective of how Falkirk fare against Airdrieonians, will ensure Athletic are crowned champions, which will also be the case if the Bairns fail to pick up three points, regardless of Dunfermline's result.

"That's the incentive," Comrie told Press Sport.

"We've got to go to KDM East End on Saturday, hopefully put in a good performance, and get the three points.

"I think with that run we're on, we want the games to come thick and fast, so it'll be a good one on Saturday, but it'll be a tough game. We need to make sure we're at it.

"It's a tough league. Looking at that record, and for Den (Deniz Mehmet) as well, getting the clean sheets (19 in League One), it's a credit to the full squad for what we've done this season."

When asked if the players were aware of events elsewhere during the game at Balmoor, Comrie replied: "No. Not at all.

"I think we just came up here and looked after our own performance. We didn't see it until after the game.

"It would've meant nothing if we didn't come up here and win anyway. That was the aim and we've managed to do it.

"It was a good win in tough conditions. That first half especially, the wind was blowing a gale. It was tough to get out at times, but we still created a couple of chances, and then, second half, I think we were in complete control and saw the game out well."

A large travelling support backed the team at the Blue Toon, having sold out the away end at Falkirk on Saturday, and a big crowd is anticipated to see if Dunfermline can seal League One, and make an instant return to the Championship, on Saturday.

"I'm sure they will come," Comrie added.

"It was another great showing tonight; the boys appreciate that support. They were loud again, and I'm sure it'll be a good atmosphere on Saturday."
