MATTY TODD has said that helping his boyhood heroes clinch title glory at East End Park is a dream come true.

The 21-year-old, who at the end of last month penned a new deal that keeps him with Dunfermline until 2026, indulged in "crazy" celebrations with the supporters after yesterday's 5-0 win over Queen of the South.

The former Dunfermline High School pupil notched the team's second goal of the afternoon on their way to their biggest league victory of the season, and the three points that sealed the SPFL League One title.

It was a welcome contrast in mood from last season, with Athletic fighting a losing battle to retain their Championship status, and Todd has been a crucial component of this term's success.

He has netted 11 goals from midfield, in 40 appearances across all competitions, and even enjoys his own song from adoring supporters.

Speaking as the celebrations began to get into full swing at the end of the game, Todd said: "I am just delighted to be honest.

"It has been close to it for the last few weeks but to get it over the line in style today, in front of our home support, is what a kid dreams of when he was younger. I was lucky enough to be involved in that today, and I’m just over the moon to be honest.

"Winning the league at East End is always something that I have grown up wanting to do. Thankfully today it has happened and I think you saw the wild celebrations at the end there from me. I’m absolutely delighted."

Todd and his team-mates enjoyed the adulation of fans all around the ground, and the North West Stand in particular, and he continued: "It was crazy to be honest. I’m delighted for them, I’m delighted for my family, and for myself, to get promoted back to the Championship.

"It doesn’t stop here. We want to continue doing what we have done well this season and see what happens for the rest of this season and definitely next season as well.

"We don’t want to go over last season too much but, when the manager came through the door at the start of the year, he said that he just wanted the club to start winning games again and start believing in yourself. I certainly think that over the course of this season we have done that.

"We have been by far the best team in the league and thoroughly deserve to get promoted.

"I’m just delighted for every single player in that dressing room because they are all superb."
