There are still places available for anyone brave enough to bare all in a charity ‘noody dook’ at Aberdour’s Silver Sands Beach next month.

The early-morning dunk on Saturday, May27, is being organised by Carnegie Dunfermline Rotary Club to raise funds for the numerous good causes it supports.

Organiser Lee Walls said: “We’re delighted that we’ve already got the best part of 100 folk signed up to take part, but we can take quite a few more.

“So anyone over 18 can still register for the dook if they’d like to enjoy the health benefits of wild bathing in cold sea water in a supportive environment. At the same time they’ll raise money for some really worthy causes.”

Lee said it was not compulsory for participants to strip right down to ‘the altogether’ if they’d prefer not to. However, wetsuits and dry-suits are discouraged as being contrary to the cold-water-therapy ethos of the event.

She added that dookers might like to add to the fun by wading in wearing items such as masks, wigs and face paint.

The event will be preceded at 7am by sign-in, followed by a 15-minute (clothed) yoga session led by a qualified yoga instructor to get participants limbered up. A piper will then play a musical accompaniment as the dookers enter the water at 7.30am.

Prior registration is required, and £12 from every registration fee of £13.09 will go to Carnegie Rotary Club to help fund the many causes that it supports.

These range from helping to eradicate polio disease to supporting victims of the war in Ukraine and disasters elsewhere, providing education for poor children in Africa, and helping disadvantaged people here in Dunfermline and West Fife.

Lee added: “Participants might also like to be sponsored to raise money for us, or for their own favourite charities, and that’s fine by us.”

The Silver Sands Noody Dook has been approved by Fife Council, and lifeguards and first aiders will be on site between 7.30am and 8.30am.

Further information, and a link to the Eventbrite page for registering, is available on the club’s Facebook page.
