A 22-year-old woman, who snapped and bit her partner after finding him playing video games, has appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

Katie McCafferty, who had been drinking, slapped her partner then bit his arm when he tried to phone the police.

McCafferty admitted that on January 4 at Law Road, she assaulted her partner by repeatedly striking him to the head with her hand and biting him on his arm to his injury.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf previously told the court the couple had been in a three-year relationship.

An argument had started between them at 9.45pm and McCafferty had left her flat returning a short time afterwards.

The depute went on: “She wasn’t happy and slapped the complainer a couple of times. He called the police and when he was on the phone to them the accused tried to get the phone from him, biting him on the forearm.

“He was later seen to have a bite mark on his arm.”

Defence solicitor Elaine Buist had told court: “He spends a lot of time gaming and she’d just had enough when she found he was doing it again.”

Sentencing had been deferred for McCafferty to stay out of further trouble, which she did.

Sheriff Susan Duff, admonishing McCafferty, told her: “I accept this was out of character and that you were in an emotional state.”
