MANY Dunfermline holidaymakers made the most of the school holidays and the absence of travel restrictions to jet off for Easter.

Barrhead Travel, who have a branch on Turnstone Road in Duloch, reported a record-breaking Easter, with departures almost 25 per cent higher than 2019.

Leigh-Anne Osoria, Dunfermline travel agent, said: “Pre-pandemic we started to see an increase in demand for overseas Easter holidays but with 2023 being the first year of the world fully reopen, we’ve really seen a boom in bookings for this period.

"People have been eager to get away to spend quality time with their families and to enjoy the first glimpse of early sunshine."

The travel agent reported three out of four holidays taken over the Easter break were for seven nights or longer.

Leigh-Anne continued: “We noticed a strong late booking market this Easter as families made spontaneous decisions to get away for the school holidays. The value-for-money on offer for all-inclusive resorts and cruise holidays made it really affordable for people to choose to book a last-minute getaway."

Barrhead Travel’s top 10 destinations its customers travelled to this April included Orlando, Tenerife, Alicante, Dubai, Antalya, Lanzarote, Cruising from Southampton, Mallorca, Paris and Gran Canaria.

“Summer 2023 is shaping up to be very busy – it is still our number one selling season," said Leigh-Anne. "Demand will only continue to rise over the next month, and we would recommend people booking sooner rather than later to secure their preferred dates and location.”
