ATHLETIC have appealed the red card issued to forward Kevin O'Hara during Saturday's draw at Airdrieonians.

Press Sport understands that the League One champions are seeking to have the 24-year-old's sending off overturned, and are likely to find out if they are successful today.

The forward, who was brought on as a 55th minute substitute at the Excelsior Stadium, was ordered off by referee, Greg Aitken, with just under 20 minutes to go for a challenge on Craig Watson.

The decision incensed the Pars bench, with assistant manager, Dave Mackay, also shown a red card for his protests in the aftermath.

That came after skipper Kyle Benedictus (below), who until the weekend had played every minute of every league match this season, was sent off for fouling former Par, Callum Smith, as he attempted to latch on to a through pass at the edge of the penalty area.

Dunfermline Press:

It is Press Sport's understanding that Athletic have chosen not to challenge that decision, meaning the centre back will miss this Saturday's final home match of the season with Clyde.

Dunfermline extended their unbeaten league run to 22 matches by picking up a 1-1 draw against the Diamonds, who sealed their place in the Championship play-off places.

Craig Wighton's fine finish gave the Pars the lead shortly before the hour mark, before Calum Gallagher replied soon afterwards, which was almost immediately followed by Benedictus' red card.

After the match, manager, James McPake, said: "It’s our first two (red cards)Β of the season, I have plenty thoughts on them yes, but I know what happens when you talk about them. I will keep them to myself.

"I’m not talking about the red cards but delighted with the desire, the courage, everything that they showed to stop the ball going in the net. That shows what that group is all about. There have been times where it has been classed that other teams play better football, other teams do this, other teams do that."

This weekend, Dunfermline will be presented with the League One trophy after the match against the Bully Wee, where they will aim to complete an unbeaten season at home.

Tickets for the game are on sale, with the North West Stand sold out, and sections of the North East Stand being made available for Pars supporters.
