THE celebrations after Athletic were crowned League One champions were "lively" according to Josh Edwards – but he's out to do a job before more take place this weekend.

Family and friends will join the 22-year-old at KDM Group East End Park on Saturday to watch him and his team-mates lift the League One trophy, which is the first honour in his professional career so far.

A large crowd is expected to attend and revel in what has been a successful first season in charge for James McPake, who has led the club back to the Championship at the first time of asking in style.

Edwards was part of the Dunfermline squad that suffered relegation last term but, whilst he is looking forward to getting his hands on the silverware, he insists that beating Clyde to ensure they finish the campaign unbeaten at home, and extend their run of games without a league loss to 23, is uppermost on the squad's mind.

"That would be brilliant. To go a whole season unbeaten (at home) I'd say is fairly good going," he told Press Sport.

"I I don't think it's a case of us relaxing any time soon. There's still two games to go and there's a few records that we can break and that sort of thing.

"I don't think anyone's relaxing. We all know that we can be part of history at the club if we win these next two games. We'll try and set as many records as we possibly can.

"It was important we bounced back this season after a hard season last year. With the amount of work the boys have put in this season to make things right, it's been a well-fought season for us, and we've enjoyed it."

When asked how much he was looking forward to collecting the prize, Edwards replied: "It's going to be a good moment.

"This is my first time winning something at a professional level, so I'm definitely going to savour it over the weekend, but we've got a job to do first on Saturday at three o'clock.

"The gaffer's said we've got a 90 minute game to play first against a team that's caused us a few problems this season.

"We want to prove we're a better side than Clyde. Obviously the league table says that, but they've given us some right hard games. There's been some moments in those games where we've been under pressure, so I think all the boys want to go out there, give a dominant performance, and then we can get the trophy after a good day's work.

"We've got to turn up there with the right attitude. It doesn't matter where they are in the league. They've came to East End and took points off us already this season, so we need to make sure we're at it to go and beat them.

"They're a well-drilled side under Jim Duffy, so it's going to be tough to break them down, as we found out in the past, so hopefully this week we can find a way through and score a few goals."

Whatever happens, though, Edwards will enjoy the post-match celebrations with his family, adding: "My papa came to the Queen of the South game. I was really happy about that, because he can't make it to as many games as he'd like these days, and I've got quite a few friends coming up for this game, and my mum, dad, brother and sister will be there as well.

"I'm looking forward to sharing it with them after the game's done."
