A DRINK DRIVER was found sleeping in his crashed car on the motorway near Dunfermline.

Police officers found Christopher Rattray lying in the back of the vehicle.

Rattray, 35, of St Catherine’s Road, Perth, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on February 26 on the M90 northbound between junctions two and three he drove after consuming excess alcohol.

His reading was 59 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres, the limit being 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said police officers saw an Audi A3 stopped on the hard shoulder with damage to it.

The condition of the vehicle was such that it could not be driven further.

The officers looked in the car and saw Rattray sleeping in the back. They woke him up and he was smelling of alcohol as well as slurring his words.

Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said Rattray had been in Edinburgh and planned to spend the night there but could not find accommodation.

“He had been sleeping in his car there then woke up and made the decision to drive,” he added.

Sheriff Charles Macnair fined Rattray £690 and banned him from driving for three years.
