A PROPOSED street name in Dunfermline had to be changed as it could have "confused" the emergency services.

The 45 new homes being built at the former Fife Council depot off Leys Park Road will have an address of Law Wynd, a nod to the site's historic use as the city's prison.

At the City of Dunfermline area committee there was a question as to why Bellyeoman Community Council's suggestion of Law Court was not taken forward.

Fife Property Gazetteer Officer Ryan McQuade replied: "We got feedback from the emergency services that it could cause confusion in the event of an emergency.

"If someone called and said they were at Law Court in Dunfermline it could easily be confused with a court of law and that could impede the response of the emergency services.

"So we went back to ward councillors to propose that the street suffix could be changed from Court to Wynd."

Councillor Derek Glen said there was already a Law Road in Touch and having two roads with the same first part of their name, that were not adjacent, could "cause confusion in the future".

He suggested it could be Justice Wynd instead but Mr McQuade said both streets would have different postcodes, different suffixes and they'd have to re-start the consultation if the proposed name wasn't approved.

The committee agreed on Law Wynd.

First Endeavour LLP are building 15 three-storey townhouses and 30 extra care flats on the site.

The community council favoured using 'Law' as the site is "surrounded on three sides by the old walls of the former city prison of many years ago”.
