THE signs are good for TK Maxx coming to Dunfermline with a new application paving the way for their new store.

They're currently converting Unit 8 at Carnegie Retail Park and plans are progressing with Fife Council granting advertising consent.

A total of nine 'TK Maxx' signs for the shopfront and surrounds were approved last week while the internal alterations, which include a new mezzanine floor, continue.

The new store will create around 30 jobs and a council report confirmed: "This application relates to a retail unit on the Carnegie Retail Park in the city centre of Dunfermline.

"The unit was formerly partly occupied by the Dreams beds store with the retailer TK Maxx converting the now empty unit."

It added: "All signage and the proposed locations are where signage would be expected and in a design and scale expected to be seen at the unit and in the retail surroundings of the site."

Work started last month on the new store while a new Dreams beds shop is set to open in Unit 7, which has been empty since 2014.

It's understood that the mezzanine floor TK Maxx require could only be added to Unit 8.

The council approved a change of use application in November last year – there was a restriction on the type of goods that could be sold from the premises – which will allow the firm to open in the retail park alongside B&Q, Matalan, Home Bargains, Pagazzi, Farmfoods and Pure Gym.

The applicant, Zurich Assurance Ltd, had previously explained that TK Maxx wanted to open a store in Dunfermline and added: "Unit 8 at Carnegie Retail Park satisfies their requirements for a store in Dunfermline and also meets their floorspace criteria."

They also said that they had looked at more than 50 empty units in Dunfermline city centre – including the space in the Kingsgate Shopping Centre that was vacated by Debenhams – but they were all unsuitable.

Boasting big brands and designer labels at small prices, TK Maxx are an American company that opened their first UK store in Bristol in 1994.

They sell clothing, footwear, gifts, bedding, furniture and domestic goods.
