DUNFERMLINE Children's Gala has received a £7,500 boost from Fife Council.

One of the best days in the city's calendar, the event hasn't been able to run since 2019 but will return on Saturday, June 24.

Thirteen primary schools have already signed up to take part with up to 1,750 kids in fancy dress expected to parade down High Street and enjoy an afternoon of fun activities in the Glen.

A request for funding was approved at the City of Dunfermline area committee last week.

Lindsay Gilfillan, a project manager for the council, said: "This is the first children's gala post-pandemic after a four year break."

She added that all Dunfermline councillors were given a presentation on this year's gala and that £2,500 would come from each ward, north, central and south.

The request was unanimously approved and committee convener James Calder said: "I'm delighted that the Dunfermline Children's Gala is finally returning and would like to thank the volunteers making this possible.

"This funding should help make this a fun day for all of our communities."

Funded purely by donations and fundraising, the hugely popular event first began when Dunfermline Cooperative Society held their first gala day in 1902.
