A Dunfermline man was caught driving when three times the alcohol limit after visiting a care home.

Steven Cook, 59, of Fodbank View, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on April 2 at Leys Park Road, Dunfermline, he drove a car having consumed excess alcohol.

His reading was 66 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the limit being 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said Cook had been visiting his mum in a care home and staff there could smell alcohol from him. He was then seen getting into his car and the police were contacted.

Defence solicitor Shona Westwood said her client had been going through a difficult time. His father had passed away in February and then his mother had gone into a care home shortly afterwards.

“He had been drinking and then made a poor decision to drive to visit his mother,” she added.

Sheriff Craig McSherry fined Cook £740 and banned him from driving for 18 months.
