NEARLY £700 has been raised in memory of a former Dunfermline worker.

Stephen Donnelly, who was based at the Fife Sports and Leisure Trust's Music Institute in Dunfermline before his death, died in 2015 after a battle with stomach cancer.

Since then, his colleagues have raised over £5,000 for local charities in his memory through an annual invitational golf event.

Friend and former colleague Gordon Hindley is one of those who have organised the fundraisers.

"Stephen, or Stevie as he was known to work colleagues and friends, was a quiet humble man who rarely accepted plaudits for any work undertaken for friends or colleagues," he said. "He would also voluntarily assist the Disability Fife organisation which has become renowned for helping Adults and children with special needs participate in sport throughout the Kingdom.

"His former colleagues and friends believe Stevie would have been proud what has been achieved over the last seven years since its inception in 2016.

"This year's golf event was in Ladybank and we decided to award the £690 raised to the Fife based Alzheimer’s Scotland."

Plans for the next golf event are already underway with the day set to take place in Dunfermline.

The latest donation was handed over to members of Alzheimer Scotland Fife's Walking Group at their weekly meet up at Townhill Loch Cafe.
