A 38-year-old man was involved in a physical struggle with his partner in Dunfermline after shouting abuse at her.
Arkadiusz Bak later committed another offence by refusing to follow breath test procedures.
Bak, of Orkney Place, Kirkcaldy, appeared in the dock with a translator at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He admitted that on December 8 at Allan Crescent, Dunfermline, he shouted, swore, made abusive remarks and struggled with his partner.
Then, on the same day at Dunfermline police station, he failed to provide breath specimens.
Sheriff Craig McSherry imposed a community payback order with 100 hours of unpaid work and a fine of £540.
Bak was also banned from driving for 12 months.
