THE Co-op want to instal a reverse vending machine outside their store at Shamrock Street.
It's in preparation for the deposit return scheme (DRS) which will see customers get money back for returning a single-use can or bottle.
A planning application has been submitted to Fife Council for the Dunfermline shop and, if approved, the machine would be installed to the left of the store entrance.
It would be just under 2.5 metres in height and 1.4m wide.
The DRS was due to start in Scotland in August but has now been delayed until May 2024 amid concerns from businesses, mainly to do with cost and storage.
It had been proposed that customers would pay a deposit of 20p when they buy a drink in a single-use container and then get the deposit back when they return the empty bottle or can.
