IT has been a memorable season for Athletic supporters as they have watched their team clinch title glory – and in record-breaking style.

James McPake's side returned to the second tier of Scottish football at the first time of asking by winning the League One crown, just the seventh championship success in the club's history.

Not only have they finished 14 points clear of second-placed Falkirk to secure top spot in emphatic style, posting 23 wins from their 36 matches, they have set a number of records along the way.

Here is the tale of Pars' success by the numbers that will put the class of 2023 into the history books.

Unbeaten at home

Dunfermline, after 18 league games, two League Cup ties, one Scottish Cup and one SPFL Trust Trophy match, ended the campaign without being beaten at KDM Group East End Park.

It is only the fourth time that a Pars side has achieved such a feat, with the other occasions coming in 1912/13; 1925/26; and 1932/33.

Fewest defeats

Athletic's only loss of the season, at Montrose in October, has set a new record for the fewest defeats across an entire campaign. The previous best was two, achieved in 1948/49, and 1994/95.

The single away defeat is also a new record for losses on the road in a single league season, beating the previous best of two, which was also in 1994/95.

Fewest goals conceded

The Pars conceded just 21 goals in 36 games, smashing the previous best over the course of the season, which came in 1912/13, when they lost 27 in 26 games. It also bests the 30 they lost when they last won League One in 2015/16, and is the least goals lost by a team across the top eight divisions of British football.

The 10 goals conceded at home breaks the previous equivalent best of 11, set in 1994/95, whilst the 11 lost on the road is the least since 1972/73, when Dunfermline conceded 13.

Clean sheets

Deniz Mehmet has recorded 24 shut-outs in all competitions – 21 of which came in the league – which surpassed Ian Westwater's individual club record from the 1985/86 campaign.

Unbeaten

Dunfermline ended the season unbeaten in 24 league games, which is a new club record, and the 81 points gathered is also a new best, surpassing the 79 achieved in 2015/16.

Goals

Craig Wighton's 20th goal of the season in Saturday's final day win at Alloa Athletic saw him become only the sixth Dunfermline player to reach that landmark this century.

The others are Faissal El Bakhtaoui (30 goals, 2015/16); Stevie Crawford (23, 2002/03); Kevin Nisbet (23, 2019/20); Andy Kirk (21, 2010/11); and Nicky Clark (21, 2017/18).

On those achievements, manager McPake commented: "When you've got these wee records in sight, it gives you that wee bit of motivation to go and try and break them.

"We're proud of all of that but proud of the team for the season they've had, they've been excellent and they can now enjoy their break."
