A DUNFERMLINE author is hoping a new page could be turned on her writing career after her book was chosen for a pilot television project.

Claire Monaghan's 'The Hollows' book has been selected for a competition where the overall winner set to be make it on screen as the Next Killer TV series.

She explained: "Think X-Factor/Dragon's Den but for Indie authors with the winning author having their book adapted for screen and optioned for production.

"I was contacted a couple of months ago by the creator of the project and she basically told me about this pilot project she got involved in a bid to find new talent to create television shows from indie author novels because she believes it is an untapped area.

"She had had a look at my social media, my Amazon reviews and asked if I would like to be involved in the project which was really nice."

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020, Claire is now in remission and this week completed her last bout of treatment.

"I had my last bone strengthening IV which is a follow up treatment from the chemotherapy and radiotherapy," she explained. "I had to have that for three years because the chemo destroys your bones.

"I was very tearful as it has been a long three years."

The battle, however, has inspired mum-of-two Claire to embrace every opportunity – such as the latest contest – when they come.

"I had to create a movie deck with a synopsis of how it would be on screen, character descriptions, I had to write an opening scene which was strange for me because I have never done anything like that. When people are voting, they get to look at the movie decks.

"I think voting ends on June 15 then the votes are totted up and the top 10 books then go through to the tv show which starts filming in September.

"So if I got through, I would go on the television show and pitch my book to a panel of actors and producers.

"I am kind of not thinking about it yet. If I am honest, since having cancer, I am just going for it and grabbing every opportunity that comes my way.

"If I got through, it would be great publicity for the city – I am very proud of where I live."
