The cycleway and path between Aberdour and Dalgety Bay has been resurfaced thanks to £365,000 from the Scottish Government.

Known locally as The Avenue, the popular route was upgraded and re-opened recently with councillors keen to hail the improvements.

At last week's full council meeting Labour councillor Patrick Browne had asked for an update on the works.

Council leader David Ross said: "National Cycle Route 76 between Aberdour and Dalgety Bay was widened and resurfaced in February to provide an improved surface for walking, cycling and wheeling."

"Due to the popularity of this route the path was widened by approximately half a metre to provide a uniform 4m width."

He said this would more easily enable two-way 'traffic' on The Avenue, which is also used by local horseriders, and added that signs and additional seating should be installed next month.

The funds to pay for the improvements came from Transport Scotland and Cllr Browne said: "Obviously it's nice for Fifers to get some money back from the Scottish Government so £365,000 to upgrade this route is greatly appreciated."

He added that the improvements were "already making a great difference".
