THE number of people out of work in Fife fell by three per cent in the last year.

There are currently 8,560 people claiming Universal Credit, 280 less than the same period in 2022.

Phil Martin, DWP Employer Manager for Fife, said posts were still available across all sectors for those looking for a job.

"The overall number of jobs available has reduced but there are still jobs out there," he said. "There are 100s of jobs across Fife so if someone is looking for a job, or are looking for more hours, they should speak to their job coach or go to the website.

“As we move into Summer, jobcentres are focussing on increasing the labour force to help businesses fill their vacancies. We’re linking up with employers, holding regular jobs fairs and pre-employment training. Locally we’ve been working with Stagecoach, Pettycur Bay Holiday Park, Holmes Care Group, Sky and many more.

“Our work coaches provide every jobseeker with individual support, to help build confidence and develop new skills. We are encouraging people, whether they are single parents, young, 50 Plus or have a health condition to connect with their jobcentre to re-join the work force, or progress in their career.

"Jobseekers can also check out the thousands of vacancies on offer, by searching the DWP ‘FindaJob’ website.”

A jobs fair in Cowdenbeath last month saw 18 employers take part and had 645 available vacancies with 276 job seekers attending.

Posts currently available include an Office Furniture Deliverer/Installer for Compass Business Installations in Rosyth, team leader/team members for Home Bargains in Dunfermline, trainee bus drivers for Stagecoach and a showroom assistant at AH Fireplace Installations.
