CAROLINE WEIR has added yet another accolade to her growing collection after she was feted by the Scottish Football Writers' Association.

The talented 27-year-old, who was born in Dunfermline and attended Pittencrieff Primary and Dunfermline High schools, has been named as the organisation's Women's International Player of the Year.

Scotland star Caroline ended a four-year spell with Manchester City – having previously played for Hibernian, Arsenal, Bristol Academy and Liverpool – to complete a dream move to Real Madrid last summer.

The midfield ace, whose unveiling included footage of her at home in West Fife sporting a Madrid shirt complete with their French great, Zinedine Zidane's name and number, has been in stunning form for the Spanish side.

In 42 matches so far, she has scored 26 goals – 19 of which have come in 27 league appearances – and has provided 16 assists across all competitions, helping her team to second in the table, behind current leaders, Barcelona.

Caroline, who will hope to reach a final with Real when they take on with Athletic Club Femenino next Wednesday evening in their Copa de la Reina semi-final, has won the SFWA award, sponsored by Glen's Vodka, for a second successive season, having been its inaugural recipient last year.

"I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me and I’m really proud to accept the award," she told the organisation's website.

β€œI’d like to thank my team-mates and the staff I work with throughout the season.”

Formed in 1957, the SFWA first introduced a Player of the Year award in 1965, and now also presents prizes to the Young Player of the Year; Men's International Player of the Year; Women's International Player of the Year; and the Manager of the Year.

In April, Caroline made her 98th senior Scotland appearance, and capped it by scoring her 16th goal for her country in a 4-0 win over Costa Rica in a friendly at Hampden.

She has also been shortlisted for International Player of the Year at The Women's Football Awards, the first major football awards in the UK, which takes place for the first time, in London, on May 25.
