A DUNFERMLINE man has raised more than £3000 in his family's fight to cure a rare and painful skin condition.

Jordan Lark, 37, completed the 15 kilometre MacTuff race at Knockhill earlier this month in aid of his sister, Hannah, who is battling Epidermolytic Ichthyosis (EI).

The disease was found at birth and causes the 26-year-old's skin to be tight and sore around her joints.

It also means she has to take care with movement – even the smallest fall can lead to an open wound and severe infection.

A recent study by the EI Cure Project is said to have discovered a potentially permanent treatment for EI, but it is estimated to cost around £300,000 to fund.

The £3,200 raised by Jordan is just a first step for the Lark family, who plan to continue to play their part in raising money to turn Hannah's dream into a reality.

Hannah said: "He (Jordan) kept the total a surprise from me, and when he brought out the giant cheque I burst into tears.

"Watching Jordan do this for me and everyone else like me truly meant the world, it filled me with so much pride, gratitude and hope.

"I’m so lucky to have the most supportive family, it was such a special day we’ll never forget!"

While Hannah can't take on her own physical challenge, she has helped the EI Cure Project in her own way, by using her graphic design skills to create a new logo.

She has thanked "everybody who has donated, shared and supported us" and added: "Words can’t even describe how much we appreciate it - we have been blown away by everyone's kindness."

A GoFundMe page set up in advance of Jordan's efforts is still open and anyone wishing to add to the current amount raised can do so here: https://gofund.me/d457cbda
