DUNFERMLINE fans will find out who they will face on the opening weekend of their Championship return at the end of next month.

The SPFL have confirmed that the fixtures for the 2023/24 season will be released on Friday June 30, with James McPake's side set to discover the identity of their first opponents back in the second tier.

They have returned to that level at the first time of asking, having won the League One title in convincing fashion following their relegation in 2022.

Fixture release day will also be notable for Kelty Hearts, who will go into a third successive campaign with a new manager in charge.

Current captain, Michael Tidser, has taken over the role from John Potter, who has moved to Raith Rovers to be their technical director, following a six-strong consortium, including Kelty's outgoing managing director and general manager, Dean McKenzie, and sporting director, Andrew Barrowman, acquiring a controlling stake in the Kirkcaldy club.

The fixtures for the SPFL Premiership, Championship, League One and League Two will be revealed at 9am on release day, with the first round of games taking place over the weekend of August 5-6.

The first round of group stage fixtures in the Viaplay (League) Cup will be held over July 15-16, with that round of the competition concluding the weekend prior to the start of the league season.

The draw for the group stage of the competition will be held on Thursday June 8 at 1pm, and broadcast live on Viaplay.
