ENERGY saving measures are to be installed at the Commercial Inn in Dunfermline.

The pub, on Douglas Street, has asked Fife Council to approve plans for seven new windows with new double glazed timber units.

Its owner, Andrew Black, last year said he was facing a "ridiculous" rise in energy bills after costs soared by 125 per cent.

At that time he feared forced cut-backs on food operating times.

The new windows will match the existing look of the building and are hoped to improve energy performance.

The current single glazed sash and case timber windows will be full removed and replaced.

Their replacements will use trickle ventilation by means of a concealed permavent within the head frame.

The Commercial Inn was named Pub of the Year Scotland in 2022 by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) but, speaking to the Press in September, Andrew worried that rising bills could be "the final nail in the coffin" for businesses like his.
