A CONFERENCE to discuss "what the future looks like for Dunfermline" is to be held next month.

The event on June 27, hosted by Fife Council at the Glen Pavilion, will offer a chance for community members and business owners to come together and discuss how to make the best of city status.

A summit, with MSP Shirley-Anne Somerville, took place earlier this year in an attempt to initiate discussions about how Dunfermline can begin to compete with other Scottish cities.

Fife Council says this follow-up conference will be a "unique opportunity" to come together and "contribute a coherent and robust vision for the future of the City of Dunfermline".

Councillor James Calder, Convenor of City of Dunfermline Area Committee said: “As the ancient capital and now 8th city of Scotland, Dunfermline is a city of rich heritage and history.

"By spearheading the first ever Dunfermline City Conference, we want to focus on what the future looks like for Dunfermline and collaborate with all our partners on how we can set out a strong future vision.

"We intend for this first conference to define a clear path for all our stakeholders to work together to ensure Dunfermline is a thriving, inclusive city that provides opportunities for all moving forwards."

More than 300 community stakeholders have been invited to attend.

The event will feature a combination of speakers and workshops as well as video blogs from different demographics within the city, highlighting what has been successful so far and what improvements could be made going forward.

Councillor Altany Craik, Fife Council spokesperson for Finance, Economy and Strategic Planning said: "Dunfermline is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK and we are fortunate to have a vast range of stakeholders that we hope will grow with the city.

"From affordable housing developments to business and manufacturing to the new £220m Dunfermline Learning Campus opening next year, there are plenty of projects and investment happening across the city at the moment.

"The Dunfermline City Conference will allow all our community partners from various sectors to come together and discuss how we can build on the growth that is already happening in Dunfermline."

The event will also explore Dunfermline’s membership of the Scottish Cities Alliance and the city’s progress towards SMART city projects and technological development.
