A DUNFERMLINE bar is to reopen more than one month after it was forced to close following a fire in the city centre.

Fabric, on Canmore Street, will welcome customers back from today (Thursday) at 4pm.

It has been closed, alongside Lourenzos on St Margaret Street, since a fire took hold at nearby Khushi's restaurant on April 21.

Khushi's has also been shut since the incident, with owner Riaz Mohammed saying he had been left "devastated" by the tragedy.

Work has been ongoing to make the building safe since, with road closures in place throughout the area.

A statement from Fabric's management team confirmed the business would reopen and thanked customers for their patience.

It said: "We are very pleased to confirm that we will be back open from Thursday, June 1, at 4pm.

"The safety work has been completed on Khushi's to make the building safe.

"Thank you for your patience.

"We look forward to welcoming you all back."

On April 28, Abbott House operations manager Louise Hutchison told the Press that "road barriers have literally become barriers to trade" to businesses on Maygate.

She said that the impact of the fire had been "much worse than expected", with Abbott House experiencing one of its slowest trading weeks since it opened two-and-a-half years ago.

An update from Lourenzos on May 11 said staff were "desperate" to welcome customers back.

It said: "We are desperate to welcome you all back and open our doors again, but until we receive confirmation it is safe, we must stay closed.

"We will continue to update our page and let you know when we can finally re open".
