TWO of Aberdour's stunning beaches have been recognised with a prestigious Scotland’s Beach Award.

Black Sands and Silver Sands were both recognised in the 2023 competition, with the latter now celebrating 30 years of accreditation in the Keep Scotland Beautiful awards.

Jamie Ormiston, Awards Officer at Keep Scotland Beautiful said: “Scotland's Beach Awards are the benchmark for quality, celebrating clean, well-managed and sustainable beaches.

"Our award-winning beaches demonstrate excellent beach management and we hope that all who visit this year play their part in keeping them beautiful.

"I’d like to thank all those in Fife who do so much to protect, maintain and enhance our beaches, protecting the sand and sea for us all to enjoy.”

To win an award, beaches were required to meet standards in the following three areas, Access, Facilities and Safety, Local Environmental Quality, and Communities and Heritage.

A total of 14 beaches in Fife were recognised in the awards: Elie Harbour Beach, Leven, Burntisland, St Andrews East Sands, St Andrews West Sands, Crail Roome Bay, Kingsbarns, Elie Ruby Bay, Billowness in Anstruther, Kinghorn Pettycur, Kirkcaldy Seafield and Kirkcaldy Pathhead Sands.

Jeremy Harris, CEO at Fife Coast and Countryside Trust (FCCT) added: “Fife’s award-winning beaches are integral to the lives of both residents and visitors to Fife, who play an important part in keeping our ‘Fringe of Gold’ pleasant to visit.

"Our dedicated FCCT team take great pride in delivering the high standard that visitors and locals alike have come to expect.

"And it’s a privilege to work with partners such as Keep Scotland Beautiful, Fife Council and the RNLI to meet those standards and achieve award-winning beaches.”
