West Fifers are being encouraged to join the Calais Woods Great Litter Pick.

Calais Woods Conservation Group, the Calais Wood Wombles and Duloch in Bloom have banded together to celebrate the Great Big Green Week with a litter pick in Calais Woods on Saturday, June 17.

Jude Rae, from the Calais Wood Wombles, said: "We have a group of dedicated volunteers who regularly litter pick around the woods but this event, as well as a general tidy up, will focus on some really messy hotspots which will need a concentrated effort by as many people as possible.

"We'll provide some litter pickers and bags, but if you have your own, bring them along.

"Sturdy gardening gloves would be handy too, but aren't essential."

Martin Willcocks, from the Calais Woods Conservation group, added: "We've held a couple of tree planting sessions in recent months, and we're hoping this event will be as well attended as those.

"It's a great opportunity for individuals and families to get involved in their local community.

"As well as the litter picking, Duloch in Bloom will be working at their sensory garden, so there's a great opportunity for any green fingered youngsters to get muddy, and help with seeding and planting.

"The sessions will be starting at 2pm, by the astro pitches near Duloch Leisure Centre, and we are hoping that we will be in a position to showcase our new outdoor art studio and conservation hub."

The event will start at 2pm and finish at 4pm. More information can be found on the Calais Woods Great Litter Pick Facebook event page or by visiting the Great Big Green Week website.
