TRIBUTES have been paid to a Dunfermline-based mechanic who tragically died at the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye.

Nathan Skinner, 25, passed away last month after falling into the water while visiting the popular tourist spot while on holiday.

The mechanic, understood to be from Stenhousemuir, has been described as a "close and valued friend" by his employer.

A statement from Dunfermline MOT and Service Centre said: "It is with a heavy heart and immeasurable sadness that we at Dunfermline MOT and Service Centre must inform you of the recent tragic loss of our mechanic Nathan, who passed away following an accident on holiday.

"Nathan joined myself (Davie junior) and my dad (Davie senior) a little over a year ago and quickly settled in to not only a professional and productive member of the team but also became a close & valued friend of both myself and my father!

"We've greatly missed his presence and character (as well as his occasional mishap) over the past few weeks and we can only imagine the pain his family & friends must be feeling at this difficult time!

"Nathan's funeral will be held at Falkirk Crematorium at 11.30am on Friday, June 9, should any of our regulars who had the joy of meeting him wish to attend.

"Finally we will share with you a link which has been set up to provide some financial help for Nathan's family, as well as provide a kind collection for the emergency service crews involved in helping at the time of the accident. Thank you."

Police Scotland's Highlands and Islands division confirmed on May 19 that a body of a man had been found during a search at the Fairy Pools.

A statement said: "Around 12.10pm on Friday, 19 May, 2023, the body of a man was found in the Fairy Pools, near Carbost, Skye.

"The family of a 25-year-old man who fell in the water on Thursday, 18 May, has been informed.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

Nathan has been called an "amazing friend, partner, son and grandson" by friends who set up a fundraising page in his memory.

It read: "On the May 18, 2023, our whole lives were turned upside down.

"Our friend Nathan passed away aged 25 in a tragic accident on the Isle of Skye while on holiday with his friends.

"He was an amazing friend, partner, son and grandson.

"This fundraiser is to say thank you to all the rescue teams that helped on that day and the day following to ensure that he was found and was able to come home.

"This is also to help raise money for his family and to help with his funeral to give him the send off he deserves.

"Any donations are greatly appreciated."
