An Inverkeithing woman, who previously stole thousands of pounds from her grandparents, has now been sentenced for stealing from her sister.

In the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court was Claire Lowe, 38, of Alma Street, who took the money over a four-month period.

She admitted that between April 1 and August 15 last year at her sister's house in Dunfermline, she stole a quantity of cash.

The court was told a total of £850 had been taken during that period when Lowe was baby-sitting.

Depute fiscal Jennifer Berner said: “The money was disappearing over time. Her sister noticed this and a safe was put in place to protect the money but the accused managed to gain access to it.”

Defence solicitor Stephen Morrison said: “She has various difficulties. She is genuinely extremely remorseful. The relationship with her sister is being re-built, albeit slowly.”

He confirmed none of the money has been paid back so far.

Sheriff William Gilchrist ordered Lowe to pay £850 compensation.

The previous offence involved Lowe stealing almost £7000 from her grandparents in Dunfermline after forcing open a money box.

She also used her gran’s debit card to play on gambling sites, spending more than £400.
