Firefighters were called out to tackle a blaze in Dunfermline's Pittencrieff Park - just days after concerns were raised about deliberate fires in the Glen.

Police are investigating after a fire was started in the park, in an area behind the city's war memorial, on Friday night.

Just days earlier, the Area Commander for West Fife, Chief Inspector Kathryn Fairfield had reported to councillors on the City of Dunfermline Area Committee that a number of youths who started fires in Pittencrieff Park had been caught but police were worried the problem will flare up again.

Friday's fire was reported around 10pm, when nearby residents, who spotted smoke, raised the alarm.

A fire crew and police officers attended the scene, and the blaze was brought under control and extinguished.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service reported that it was a fire of rubbish in the burn area of the Glen.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a fire at Pittencrieff Park in Dunfermline shortly after 10.05pm on Friday, June 9.

“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire and no one was injured.”
