POLICE are appealing for information after a number of reports of break-ins and vandalism in Pittencrieff Park.

The most recent, which was called in today (Monday), saw greenhouses targeted and glass doors smashed.

There have been several similar instances in recent months and officers are asking for the public's help to trace those responsible.

Constable Simon Rose, of Dunfermline Police Station, said: "This type of vandalism is not only costly to repair but is also dangerous, with broken glass being left in an area popular with visitors.

"The park is for all to enjoy and acts of criminality or anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.

"Those responsible will be traced and dealt with accordingly.

"I’m appealing for anyone who has information, or has seen anyone acting suspiciously in the park, to come forward and report it.

"I’m particularly keen to speak to anyone who has witnessed suspicious activity around the greenhouses."

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1088 of June 12, 2023.

Alternatively you can report it anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Firefighters were called out to tackle a blaze in the Glen on Friday - just days after concerns were raised about deliberate fires there.

Police are investigating after a fire was started in an area behind the city's war memorial.

Just days earlier, the Area Commander for West Fife, Chief Inspector Kathryn Fairfield had reported to councillors on the City of Dunfermline Area Committee that a number of youths who started fires in Pittencrieff Park had been caught but police were worried the problem could flare up again.

It has been just over one year since a devastating attack on the park's peacock aviary where one bird, Malcolm, was killed and another, Louis, was severely injured.
