VOLUNTEERS of all ages turned out in force to help clear an area of Dunfermline woodland.

The Calais Woods Great Litter Pick was held on Saturday and over 40 bags of rubbish was gathered by the 25 local residents who turned up for the event which was part of #GreatBigGreenWeek2023.

Much of the mess was at the 'flappy bird den' which is a popular gathering place for local youths.

Martin Willcocks, from Save the Calais Woods Wildlife, said: "It was great to catch up with so many individuals and organisations who care about their local environment .We've cleared an enormous amount from a long time hot-spot."

Jude Rae, from the Calais Wood Wombles, added: "We have purposefully left this den messy to let the community see just how bad it can get after several 'party nights'. It has gradually been getting worse over a number of months. We’ve been dreading clearing it out but many hands made light work, and the difference is fantastic!"

Those who took part included the Calais Wood Wombles, the Save the Calais Woods Wildlife, Duloch in Bloom, Fife Fife Street, Safer Communities Fife and Soroptimist International Dunfermline.
