BUZZING Sam Fisher has said that feeling wanted and the belief in him from James McPake made him eager to seal a return to Dunfermline.

The 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the club after deciding to leave Dundee, having had a successful loan spell at KDM Group East End Park last season.

The centre back, who worked with McPake at Dens Park, made 17 appearances during the first half of the campaign, after making his debut in a win at Queen of the South in September, before being recalled by his parent club in January.

Fisher, who admitted to being "gutted" to leave the Pars, was given an offer to stay with the Dees, who were promoted to the Premiership as Championship winners, but believes a fresh start along the Halbeath Road is the best move for his career - with the belief of his new management team a big selling point.

"I had the chance to stay at Dundee but, at this point in my career, I thought it was the best move to come here and continue playing under the manager, which I thoroughly enjoy, him and Dave," he told Press Sport.

"I love playing under them. That was my priority, to try and come back here. The way that Dunfermline showed how much they wanted me was a massive factor in coming as well, because I felt wanted, and this is where I wanted to play my football for the next few years.

"I'm buzzing; it's obviously what I was wanting for so long. Obviously, I had to focus on Dundee when I first went back, but I always had it in my mind to come here, if it was this window, or if it was another. So, the fact I managed to get it done relatively quickly, I'm just buzzing about it.

"When I first went back, I had to change. I had to fully focus on Dundee because, at the same time, I wanted to win the league with them as well. Obviously, I kept an eye on the results here, but I was fully focussed at Dundee.

"As soon as the last game of the season finished, I had some down time with my family, but, as soon as that was done, then I had one thought and that was to try and get myself back here as soon as possible."

After securing a second league title with Dundee, following Dunfermline's League One success, Fisher saw his former club change manager, with Gary Bowyer departing, to be replaced by Tony Docherty, and the chance to stay in the City of Discovery remained on the table.

Discussions, though, didn't take place in detail as Fisher was keen to seal a move back to West Fife, and he's delighted to have the belief from the club that warranted a three-year contract.

"I think any young player is after that," he said.

"I'm still relatively young - I'm 21, I'm 22 next month - so the fact the management staff still put their trust in me, and just believe in my ability, that they've brought me here, I owe them a lot, so again, I'm buzzing.

"It shows the visions of the club and it shows visions of myself as well. I want to play here for a long time, I want to do well for the club, and hopefully do well for the fans as well."
