A SUMMER reading challenge promoting mental and physical wellness has been launched by Fife's libraries.

This year's theme is Ready, Set, Read and youngsters will be encouraged to use books, games, play and sport.

The challenge is to read six books before the end of summer - it can be fiction and non-fiction from the library or e-books and e-audio books from OnFife’s free library app, Libby.

Kids collect awesome rewards along the way, including a very cool wooden medal at the end, and are entered into a prize draw to win Amazon vouchers or an author visit to their school.

All libraries in Fife, and the mobile libraries too, are taking part from until August 26 and many have created tracker wall displays where participants can track their progress.

There will also be 33 Ready, Set, Make! craft and story events happening in libraries over the holidays at a cost of £1.50 each.

Every location will also have a free scavenger hunt and activity sheets on offer.

This year OnFife is also working with award-winning business woman Robyn Drummond, of Robyn Drummond fitness.

She will be holding Ready, Set, Move with Robyn events at eight venues, including Dunfermline, Inverkeithing, Kelty and Valleyfield.

These free events will celebrate healthy minds and bodies with the whole family in an achievable and fun way.

Robyn won the Dunfermline Press/Central Fife Times Community Champion's Entrepreneurial Award for 2023 for her work helping thousands of people across Fife with their health and fitness goals.

The Young People & Families team at OnFife is also running a project with four Fife Council Holiday Clubs, working closely to provide library visits and activities to support members in completing the challenge.

These are taking place in Dunfermline, Dalgety Bay and Rosyth.

Sabrina Maguire, Young People and Families Engagement Coordinator, said: “Make sure all your school-age kids, grandkids, neighbours' kids and kids of the street know about the Summer Reading Challenge and pop into your local library to see what a buzz it brings to have so many young people enjoying the library spaces in Fife."
