A DUNFERMLINE travel agent is riding the wave of demand for cruise holidays after seeing bookings triple.

Barrhead Travel Dunfermline has revealed a significant increase in demand for cruising as numbers surpass pre-pandemic levels.

With holidays in high demand this year, the travel group has also reported that many cruise holidays are even more affordable than a decade ago thanks to the increase in choice.

In 2022, more than 16 new cruise ships came to the market and there are now more ships home-ported in Southampton than ever before.

More than one third of Barrhead Travel’s business is for cruise holidays with the Mediterranean being the most sought-after itinerary, making up 70 per cent of cruise bookings for the summer period.

In 2022, Barrhead Travel predicted that the evolving cruise market would stimulate high growth during 2023 and launched a Cruise Training Academy to help bolster the knowledge of its travel experts.

It has also since launched a new cruise programme called Distinctive Voyages which offers added value and exclusive pricing that is only available for Barrhead Travel customers.

Leigh-Ann Osoria, Manager at Barrhead Travel Dunfermline said; “Since the pandemic, the cruise industry has only continued to thrive with its innovation and affordable offering to travellers.

"We’re not only experiencing a huge influx in returning customers but are also welcoming a whole new market that are interested in trying something different.

“Cruising is a great way to tick off multiple places in one go and can often be the best method of destinations that are further afield or harder to access by air.

"For many, arranging a cruise holiday can be a minefield, especially if it’s your first, so consider booking via a reputable travel agent that can offer specialist knowledge and advice on the best deals out there.”
