A DOCUMENTARY capturing the the origins and career of The Skids will premiere at an Irish film festival this summer.

The Skids: ResVolution follows the band's story from conception up until its 2016 reunion.

The film has been created by COViRO Productions, a boutique production house that focuses on alternative stories.

It will give an anarchic view of the music industry and answer questions about what made the band successful.

Frontman Richard Jobson said: "This has been a long time coming.

"Others have tried to make docs about the Skids but they didn’t get off the ground.

"It was a real labour of love.

"We love our fans and for a new audience, the film will give a sense of what has pushed us on.

"We don’t do nostalgia, A World on Fire was our first album in 40 years.

"It was written as the doc was filmed and backtracks it.

"Galway is a great festival and as it coincides with the launch of our latest album, Destination Dusseldorf’

"We couldn’t be happier. I’m excited to see the finished film."

The Skids celebrated the release of Destination Dusseldorf last month with a historic homecoming gig at Dunfermline Abbey.

COViRO aims to present stories from previously unexplored angles.

The firm, formed in Northern Ireland, handpicks each tale to highlight the varied lives and outlooks of its subjects in the hope that they inspire and engage viewers.

Laura Graham, co-director and editor, said: "I started editing this documentary thinking it was about the reforming of a punk band, a group of guys, probably too old to be punks, but with great music.

"The 1970s were rough, particularly for Scotland and the history interested me.

"We thought it couldn't get any worse.

"This doc charts our world through the filter of this band, as they made their own luck, cobbling together style and music with sellotape, photocopies, with talent, with drive and with staying power. "Not all of them survived, that’s a story in itself.

"This is a punk music doc, made in a punk way in the style of a fanzine.

"The new album, as background for the doc reveals a prophetic sense of where our world is going.

"After this, I know punk is not an age, it's a state of mind."

Colin Graham, co-director and cinematographer, added: "I had worked with Richard on a couple of films when he mentioned the Skids were going on tour.

"What started as a favour became a great opportunity for a filmmaker!

"Coming from Belfast, punk represented an alternative, kids kicking air instead of each other!

"Now with the knowledge and reality of time following the band since their reunion has been life-affirming.

"Age does not define the fans. Punk energy is there, at every single gig.

"Watch as the years slough off, and see the joy, anarchy and spirit burst anew.

"This story is about positive masculinity that embraces everyone, and the film celebrates that.”

The world premiere of The Skids: ResVolution will take place at Galway Film Festival on Thursday, July 13. The documentary will be screened at Pàlàs Cinema 1 at 10.15pm.
