A WEST FIFE golfer has no plans to sign her final scorecard and put her clubs away just yet after winning her 17th title – at the age of 71!

Kim Horne, who lives in McDonald Street, Dunfermline, played above-par at Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club to reach the milestone number of Ladies Club Championship wins last month.

The well-known club, located to the west of Edinburgh, concluded its 2023 club championships on June 17 and, in one of six finals played across their gents, ladies and junior membership, Kim played her way to yet another success.

A past captain at Dalmahoy, she came through her semi-final against Mary Nicol to face Samantha MacGregor, a new member of their ladies section who, in 2022, was the ladies champion at her previous club, Broomieknowe, based in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian.

Kim's experience saw her through to victory and pick up her 17th ladies championship, having won her first way back in 1996.

Kim, who began playing the sport in her late 30s, and has previously won twice at Dunfermline Golf Club, said: "I was the underdog.

"I am 71 and played a girl who is 23 - I had won it four times before she was born! It was a big shock and surprise, but I did play well.

"I'm here for a long time and I'm still fighting fit. I love it, I love the girls, and it's my passion. I don't care if I do anything else – I've won the championship.

"It's a great feat having my name up there 17 times."

Last year, Kim was presented with an honorary membership at Dalmahoy in recognition of her then 16 ladies club championship wins, and Cameron McDiarmid, the club's golf co-ordinator, said on its website: "Qualifying for the ladies club championship split the membership with the top bracket semi-final played between Samantha MacGregor and Amy Foster.

"Amy Foster who was a junior member has progressed well in the ladies section and is a past winner of the ladies championship. Samantha though a new member of the ladies section has had great success at previous club Broomieknowe where Samantha won the 2022 club championship.

"The bottom bracket semi-final saw Kim Horne and Mary Nicol play. Both ladies are experienced and fantastic ambassadors for Dalmahoy and the ladies section with both Kim and Mary being past captains and Kim a sixteen time club champion.

"Samantha and Kim progressed to the final where ultimately Kim’s experience came through and after a great match full of quality won her seventeenth club championship."
